Digital Signals on the Ham Bands

Right under the phone sub-bands, above CW, you will today hear many digital signals. These are mostly the computer sound-card-mode signals. Below are the ones you will most likely use, hence these few may be worth learning to recognize by sound.

PSK31

Wide PSK (mt63)

RTTY

Hellschreiber

Slow-scan TV

The digital modes are a moving target -- still being developed. So you will hear many other digital signals from time to time. Commercial and military users have a whole set of their own. But unless you are very patient yow will rarely be able to make a contact on digital modes other than the above.

Hence Greg, WB2FXO, and I (W6NBC) are the only local hams to have actieved the prestigeous WASH award. (Worked all Santa Maria Hellschreiber stations (one).)
